Name: Mr Mustafa
My job at the Archer Academy: Head of Modern Foreign Languages
The subject I teach: I am a Spanish and French teacher and love everything related to languages and other cultures!
The area of my subject I most enjoy teaching: Translating idiomatic expressions! Have you ever wondered why we say things like “it’s raining cats and dogs” or “barking up the wrong tree?” These are expressions that are unique to English and I’ve always been intrigued by how Spanish and French speaking countries use their language in creative ways to express themselves. They show us that learning another language is to understand a completely new way of thinking. Translating these phrases and messages allows us to unlock the culture, heart and soul of different countries so that we are able to better understand and celebrate our cultural differences.
The enrichment activity I hope to run after school: Beginners Portuguese and Novel Writing!
Two top facts about me:
- I am a keen traveller and try to visit as many different countries as I can. I have visited a range of countries from Japan to Finland and have lived in Argentina and Portugal.
- I’m a self-professed Harry Potter geek!
If I weren’t a teacher I would be: a foreign affairs journalist.
What I am most looking forward to this year at the Archer Academy: I feel very privileged to be part of the Archer Academy community and I am really looking forward to ensuring that all students enjoy languages lessons.
My message to our new Year 7s: Embrace every moment of what is going to be an incredible year! Make sure you give every new opportunity your best and explore all that your new school, new teachers and new friends have to offer you and if you need anything at all, I will be happy to help!
