I am delighted to welcome you to the Archer Academy. I’m sure that you too are very excited about moving up to secondary school, however, I know that it can also seem quite daunting. Your new teachers, form tutors, Miss Ogbaselase and I are going to do all that we can to make sure that you have a truly wonderful start to your secondary school experience.
This will be my sixth year at the Archer Academy. My role as Head of Lower School is to work with the Heads of Years 7, 8 and 9 to ensure that all of the students in the Lower School are happy and working hard to reach their potential.
A big part of my job is to make sure that you have an enjoyable and successful transition into year 7. Having visited lots of year 6 children in primary schools I know that you will have a lot of questions about what your new school will be like. My biggest piece of advice to you would be to follow our school rule, ‘work hard and be nice’. If you try to do these two simple things all of the time, I am confident that you will make friends and be successful.
I hope that you have managed to get hold of a copy of the Phantom Tollbooth and are enjoying working your way through the story and following Milo on his journey. As well as being the Head of Lower School I am also an English teacher and so have a great passion for reading. I know that lots of you are avid readers too and so I will leave you with a few recommendations for you to enjoy:
- Curse of the Nomed, BB Taylor
The story was created by students specifically to help students with their first day of year 7.
- Wonder, R.J. Palacio
This is a beautiful story about a boy named Auggie who has a severe facial abnormality.
- The Hobbit, J.R.R. Tolkein
Bilbo Bagins is whisked away on the adventure of his life.
For the meantime, make the most of exploring the VIP Zone. Try to get involved in as many challenges as you can.
